The cooling process has a profound impact on the quality and dimensional accuracy of extruded aluminum profiles. The main limitation of air cooling is its relatively slow cooling rate. Water mist cooling is essential for producing high-strength structural profiles used in the automotive and aerospace industries.
However, water mist cooling also has drawbacks. The water can leave stains on the profile surface, requiring additional cleaning steps before finishing. The systems also consume more energy and require a water supply and wastewater treatment system. The mist nozzles can become clogged with aluminum dust, requiring regular maintenance to ensure consistent performance.
